Then as a resident, I found that oncology patients were among the most gratifying to take care of because they appreciate so much everything you try to do for them. In high school and college, I was very interested in science and mathematics, and the human body and physiology. In college, meeting different types of people, I realized that I wanted a profession that gave me the opportunity to interact with all different kinds of people. I grew up in Salisbury, NC, the child of an educator and a nurse. An interest in medicine led me to the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where I followed a path into the caring field of nursing. I spent four years as a labor and delivery nurse at Duke University Medical Center before returning to the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill to become a family nurse practitioner. It was through Duke that I met my wonderful physician colleagues, and joined Durham Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2002. I've enjoyed creating long-term relationships with patients, watching my teenage patients grow into adulthood, and helping all women navigate through the different and sometimes difficult stages in their lives. I value delivering high quality care and education to my patients and participating in the training of future health care providers.
